The Bradley County Medical Center Board of Directors met Thursday, June 27, at 12:30 p.m., at the Brunson Medical Complex.
The board heard a presentation concerning marketing of the Medical Center. Via teleconference in conjunction with a digital slide presentation, Greg Michaels of MTI Studios pitched his ideas for his firm's marketing strategy for the hospital. Marketing Director Jenny Ross of (MAHC) Medical Assests Holding Company, which is currently providing administrative services for the hospital, told the board she would work up a one-year marketing strategy for BCMC. She will present her plan to the board during the July meeting.
Charlotte Laster, Director of Radiology at BCMC, addressed to the board the need for radiology/surgical equipment. She told the board that in the past if a piece of equipment was shut down, that patients had to be sent elsewhere to obtain services. She reported that in April, one piece of equipment was shut down for three days.She indicated that there was a real need to have backup systems. Following her presentation, the board voted to spend $199,500.00 to purchase:
*Konica Minolta Aero DR System at a cost of $103,500 plus $26,000.00 for a warranty,
*a refurbished GE AMX 4 portable unit at a cost of $75,000.00 plus $8,000.00 for a warranty, and
*Del C-Arm at a cost of $75,000.00 plus $8,000.00 for a warranty.
County tax revenue will be used to purchases the equipment.
Clayton Winters, Materials Management Director for BCMC, presented an explanation of a five-year contract with the (GPO) Group Purchasing Organization Health Trust. By purchasing supplies through Health Trust, the hospital is able to get needed products at their best prices. Randy Fortner added that when using the GPO, the prices are presented to the BCMC Leadership Council and that in some cases rebates are also possible through the system.
Fortner also reported to the board that the hospital was able to renegotiate a contract with Radiology Associates P.A. (RAPA) . The renegotiated contract will save the hospital $22,000.00 per month. In addition to the savings, services will be increased from one day per month to four days per month. He also reported that MAHC has worked with a consultant to create a draft for outpatient lab contract services. The draft will be presented to the board in the July meeting.
The board approved three medical staff recommendations:
* Debbie Cannon, RN Wound Care Clinic (initial appointment to June 2014)
*Michael Flick, M.D., RAPA (initial appointment to June 2014)
*Robert Forward, M.D., RAPA (initial appointment to June 2014)
