After dispensing with the numerous regular matters of monthly business, the Bradley County Medical Board took time to review the preliminary plans of a new clinic for doctors, during the board's September 22nd meeting.  The clinic will be constructed by the hospital and will house a new physician planning to locate in Warren and will have space for a total of four doctors.  The estimated cost is around $2 million, not counting parking lot construction and will be paid for by hospital sales tax funds.  The board discussed changes that might be wise and ways to reduce the overall cost.  County Judge Keith Neely and several board members stated that while it is important to keep the cost as low as possible, it is also vital to build what is needed and will provide the services required.  The proposed clinic will be approximately 10,500 square feet in size.

In other business, the board hear a presentation from the Hagan Newkirk firm relating to managing the hospital's 401(K) plans for employees.  The board voted to hire the company.

Brandon Gorman presented the financial and home health care reports.  The hospital experienced a net gain of $106,548.00 for the month and according to Mr. Gorman, is in good financial condition.  Administrator Rex Jones told the board that the hospital is doing well financially based on increased income from out patient services.  He said the trend throughout the nation is that out patient services must carry a hospital because less money is made on patients staying in the hospital.  Patients stay fewer days in the hospital based on how treatment is handled and paid for.

Dr. Joe Wharton moved that the following medical staff recommendations be approved:
Kenneth Purvis, M.D., Family Medicine
Suzanne Martindale, APN. Wound Care Specialist
Bradley Fogel, D.O., Pathology
Lisa Faulkenbury, APN, Wound Care Specialist
Janice Brooks, M.D,, RAPA
David Jong, M.D., RAPA
Michael Weiner, M.D., Pathology
James Renfroe, M.D., Emergency Medicine
All were approved.

Rex Jones, Hospital Administrator, gave an executive report.  He told the board the Bradley County facility can now do modified swallow studies, plans for office relocations and plans by the foundation to raise money.  He also talked about the Hospital Auxiliary's recruitment efforts and the chaplain program.  Mr. Jones informed the board that Radiology Director Charlotte Laster has retired after 22 years of service and interviews are planned to hire a new person.  He said Ms. Laster had done a great job during her time of service.

Tiffany Holland, CNO, updated the board on activities of her office and indicated efforts are ongoing to hire full time nurses for the labor and delivery and ER departments.  She updated the board on various meetings she has attended.

The board adopted the 2016-2017 budget and approved the three year capital budget plan.  All capital expenditures will be brought to the board prior to final purchases being made.

The board then went into executive session to discuss personnel matters.  Any votes taken will be reported in the future.
